St. Louis, MO - Oct 27

Post by Limo Ride on Tue Jul 12, 2016 1:53 pm

They will be back in St. Louis at the new Delmar Hall on October 27. This is a brand new facility that will hold 750. My understanding is that it is owned by the same management as the Pageant and is located next door.

I cannot even begin to express how awful Peelander-Z was. I was tolerating them and their antics (shoving their nasty headpiece on my head and stepping out onto the railing I was leaning on) until I got spit on, and then I about came unglued. I have never been more thankful for HCTM's ability to turn my mood around and put a smile on my face. The opener very nearly ruined the whole night for me. I pity anyone who has to endure them more than once.

The boys, on the other hand, were wonderful as always. We had the pleasure of seeing Tut on bass with a familiar horn section of Will, Flu, and Rah. I was glad to finally get to hear Stroke of Midnight live. The drum battle got a big genuine smile out of Cass and Tut both when Cass broke a stick, and of course, Cass had his usual lyrical flub during the encore, Single Entendre. It appeared during the encore that the band had extra set time to fill, so we were treated to extended solos from almost everyone. Overall, great show, and I sure wish I were able to go to Nashville.

I'm curious --- since there were so many negative comments about Peelander Z after the Elkhart show, and more after last night's show in St Louis, do any of you think it would be appropriate to message the band about this?

I don't know whose choice it was to have this strange group as the opener for four shows in a row, but I haven't heard anyone say they enjoyed them.  Would it be appropriate to mention this to the band, politely and in a private message?

Like most everyone else, I first thought it might be interesting and fun. I started out with an open mind and gave them a chance.  But within fifteen minutes, I'd had all I could take.
I would hate to see Peelander Z discourage people from seeing HCTM.  But given a choice of shows, I'd hesitate to choose one where they were opening.

Delmar Hall is a newly opened venue, any comments about what it is like? Loretta and I had tickets, but missed the show due to going to Key West for Fantasy Fest.

I'm not sure I like it quite as much as the Pageant. The only entrance is through the bar, which filled up very quickly. There is no place for a secondary outside line. The terracing inside the venue is not as pronounced as in the Pageant, leaving the people who choose to sit at the tables a poor view of the stage over those on the open floor. Not a problem for us, since we are always in or near the front row, but for those that like to find a nice place to sit, it is less than ideal. The venue is rather long and narrow as well, being not much wider than the stage itself. Overall, we had a good experience in the front row (railing is a similar distance from the stage as the Pageant and stage a similar height), but I cannot speak for those towards the back of the building.

Thank you, (Dr.) B! Loretta and I have found that we prefer some of the old theater venues that offer good standing room up front as well as a decent view if you want to sit (lol!) But, the seating view usually disappears once the band enters and everyone stands for the entire show.
