Re: March 19 - Diamond Jo Casino - Dubuque, IA

Post by Luv on Mon Mar 21, 2016 8:45 am

To be perfectly honest, it's been 5 months and that is WAY too long to go without an HCTM fix!! So I was pretty into the music and didn't get much in the way of pics or videos. Just a snippet of Hard at Work (great song!!) and the flute duel during Bring That Down.

I'm not sure what I was expecting at my first show post-Java, but I guess I thought I would notice a marked change -- I really didn't. I can't say that I didn't miss Java, especially when looking up toward his spot in the corner...but sound-wise they are as tight as ever!! Midnight fills his new role seamlessly, although I couldn't really hear him talking at all. I noticed that he did so, during the Funk Shui and other parts, but it might have been the venue that made it so I didn't pick up on his softer speaking tones. Others seemed to react positively when he was doing his thing!

I will say that this was the absolute loudest Mummies show I've ever been to!! My left ear was ringing for the next day and a half, and that's never happened before.

Shy will have to help me out on a setlist...I know they started with a new song, and Hard at Work and Make it Shake were also in the mix for new stuff. They ended the night with Wiener Man, which I hadn't heard at the last few shows I've been at.

Can someone clear up my confusion about the new mummies on horns?  From what I gathered around the forum, they are Mummy Yo (subbing for Flu, who was not in attendance) and Will Pharaoh?  A few people have said that Yo used to go by Minimum, but that's who is in my profile pic (at least I thought so!) and they sure don't look alike to me?

Here are Yo and Pharaoh onstage:

Here's the best I shot I could get of Pharaoh, he did not come out for the M&G...which is a damn shame because I wanted him to sign the thong he so kindly gave me Wink

Rah, Eddie and Spaz were also at the M&G (I did not see Pharaoh, Cass, Midnight or Pole come out). The venue had a guy playing guitar at the back of the bar, which they've never done before and I thought was kind of weird after the show had literally just ended, but I suppose it was a way to encourage people to hang out and buy drinks. Spaz was running through the crowd in front of the guitar guy randomly dancing with people, and Eddie was playing carnival barker (silently) by standing on the merch table.

All in all - it was a fabulous night!

Here is some video...I sent the clip of Hard at Work to my brother (who had to work Saturday night and was NOT happy about missing the show) and his response was, "When are we going?"  I love you

And the flutes:

Honestly I could be wrong. I don't even remember where I heard that and I was thinking the same thing, that they don't look the same, on Thursday. But they both have that thing for C# and letting go of their saxes. Tho that's nothing super weird.

Little Grasshoppers: your show reviews were excellent. You have now reached the black belt status of skilled Mummie fans...Next is PLATINUM when you do mutliple shows in a row...at least 2 if not 3 minimum!

Luv--that was an excellent review!! You said everything that I would have. As far as the set list goes...I just dance. I will say the new songs are wonderful. Seriously wonderful and I can't wait for the CD. And I totally agree about our missing Java. I did miss him, but was so happy that the guys did not miss a beat without him. I LOVED seeing Cass's and Midnight's personalities shine. And they did shine. Dancing with Luv and the Sparkle girls was SO much fun. Luv and I did our best to get them (the Sparkle Girls) to join us here, so we'll see if we were convincing!! John popped on, so he's now officially one of us!! (waves to John) I swear, I've seen Mott at like a gazillion shows and this is the first time I found out his name (we always talked at shows though)!!! I love how this mummy fan base is so tight.

The M&G was hectic. Dubuque does not have the greatest set up for the M&Gs--at least in my opinion. I saw Spaz running thru the crowd, like Luv said, but didn't get a chance to squeeze him. Mummy Yo was the first one I saw. Be forwarned: He gives AMAZING hugs. Like Red's hugs. He really pulls you in and gives it to you!! LOL! Then I only got to see Midnight (another sweetie), Rah (his usual wonderful) and Cass. I had the nicest moment with Cass...this was only the second time I've seen him at a M&G. I know he's more shy than the other boys, but he was so warm and genuine. I loved the moment. Oh....and I told Rah to join us on this forum. He kinda acted like he didn't know we were still around, but I assured him we were. My only disappointment was that I didn't get to give Jimmie as squeeze. He was running around like a total crazy busy person, and I understand. So Jimmie, here's your Shy hug {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

It is always super hectic in the Moon Bar!! I didn't even see Cass and Midnight, that's how crowded it was. I never stay too long at that one, the mass of people is always just too much for me!

They were in the far corner standing on the table. But I didn't see The Pole--and how could I miss him!!!??? Wish there was a better set up for the M&G, but I have to say that I do like the Moon Bar, so I'm really not complaining--just wishing. Very Happy
